In December our 5th graders had the opportunity to attend Astro Camp!
Astro Camp is a program held at Odyssey Elementary in Ogden. The program facilitators have built a “space ship” that resembles one that NASA would launch; obviously not as high tech, but still amazing! It has a lot of buttons, switches, keyboards, and screens. Each student had a head set ($1000 each!) that allowed them to communicate with one another to press the proper keys, push the correct buttons, and fix any problems that occurred. The goal is to “launch” the space ship within 45 minutes. Each student plays an essential role in launching the ship. They must read their part in an elaborate script at the proper time. If they missed their part, points were taken away. Every one of our 5th grade crews were able to launch within the 45 minutes! The students had so much fun! Most said it was the most stressful, and most fun field work experience yet!
